Sparrow - Overview
Sparrow is what is considered an on-hit carry, meaning she excels from lots of attack speed and on-hit passives from items. The reason Sparrow is an on-hit carry is because of her passive, relentless. This passive synergizes incredibly well with attack speed, so we want to build around a good attack speed on-hit build for Sparrow.
Crest Options
- Marksman / Eviscerator: This crest synergizes incredibly with Sparrow and can be used to tear through enemy front line and back line alike. This crest is great if you believe you will be able to find positioning where you can free fire into the enemy team or if they have no hard CC. This is also a good option if you just don't think Liberator is going to save you from dying.
- Marksman / Liberator: This crest is an absolute must vs certain comps and heroes ESPECIALLY on Sparrow. If the enemy team has a Riktor, Aurora, Fey, or Gideon then you should default to this automatically. It is also just good in general vs a lot of other characters. If you don't know what to pick, this is always good and also provides a shield on use.
Core Items
- Storm Breaker: This hasn't changed. This item is still fantastic on Sparrow as it applies Relentless stacks to everyone the lightning jumps to. It is also now a bit more forgiving in the case you are missing your auto attacks. Lastly, the raw stats are what we really want and it hits like a truck late game.
- Sky Splitter: This item is still great for most carries and is a must on Sparrow. It synergizes with your passive, active, and other core items to create a deadly combo.
- Spectra: This item is just stupidly strong for on-hit carries because of the raw attack speed it gives and how fast and reliably you can proc Prisma. This is going to be your biggest power spike, even though it is lacking any raw damage, the double on-hit effects makes this item deadly on carries like Sparrow. The ability haste is a nice little bonus
Finalizing Build
These are generally the last 3 items you will want to build, however, the order of these items can vary depending on what you need the soonest.
- Demolisher: This item is a must vs basically all comps (unless fighting an entire team of squishies). Strongly recommend to default to this 4th but if you are vs nothing but squishies you can skip this as your 4th item and finish the build off with Lightning Hawk as your 6th item.
- Tainted Rounds: Firstly, this item is obviously a must vs healing comps. But also important to note most heroes have some form of life steal, healing, or health regen, and it is much easier to stack now. Outside of this however, the on-hit passive is great and an absolute must to use for on-hit carries. Opt to build this earlier, around 3rd or 4th item if you are vs a lot of healing such as a Phase or Narbash.
- Dust Devil: This was a powerful on-hit item that gives a lot of raw stats and a nice passive to help with kiting. Great way to round the build out and proc on-hit effects much faster while also getting that extra movement speed. Take Onixian Quiver instead if you are struggling vs a tanky enemy front line because of the shotgun capability it provides.
Situational Items
- Equinox: This item is a great option if you are having trouble staying alive in team fights. The raw stats synergize nicely with Sparrow and the passive shield can often be life or death for you in team fights. Replace Dust Devil or Tainted Rounds with this if needed.
- Onixian Quiver: This item is great vs front liners with large hitboxes (Steel, Rampage, Sevarog, etc). If you are having trouble with a tanky frontline then consider taking quiver over Dust Devil as it will out perform in terms of DPS by a decent bit against these targets.
Skill Order
There are two options I recommend for skill order which are:
PC: R > E > Q > RMB
Xbox: LB+RB > LT > LB > RB
PS: L1+R1 > L2 > L1 > R1
PC: R > E > RMB > Q
Xbox: LB+RB > LT > RB > LB
PS: L1+R1 > L2 > R1 > L1
Both options are very good and it really does just come down to personal preference. Q (LB/L1) secondary max provides you more early wave clear, a somewhat decent slow to walk targets down more easily, and a good chunk of damage for anyone who stays in it. RMB (RB/R1) secondary max provides you a stronger poking option early on, a bit of wave clear, and a more reliable means of executing. I typically change the order depending on what I think will benefit me the most in each given match but tend to find myself Q (LB/L1) maxing more often.
Tips and Tricks
There isn't really any mind bending tricks with Sparrow. She is a carry completely reliant on positioning as well as your team providing you with necessary peel. As you climb to higher ranks, Sparrow becomes much harder to pull off. Focus on farming and playing safe as much as you can to get a gold lead without feeding your enemy too much. Get used to never Ulting without your E (LT/L2) up. You should always hold Ulti until your E (LT/L2) is off cooldown unless absolutely necessary to ulti right away. Make sure to drop your rain of arrows in the middle of fights or to slow someone chasing you. Lastly, you can fast fire a RMB (RB/R1) while boxing as a filler between autos for a smidge more damage. It could be the difference maker!
