Predecessor Builds > Grux > Grux Off and Jungle
Crests:
Warrior Crest You want to go Warrior Crest to start. Choosing either what you are more comfortable with for your active item either Iceskorn Talons or Judgement. Iceskorn if you want to provide a team boost and slow your enemies whether chasing or pursuing or Judgement to deal area damage to help clear camps faster. Go Brutallax for the cleanse if you are fighting a lot of CC enemies like Aurora or Riktor.
Starting Items:
Start by grabbing the shortsword first for the damage but build stone of strength next. Completely build out Bonesaw before moving onto another item. This will significantly help sustain or minion clear either in lane or in jungle even if playing from behind.
Early Game:
Start with Bonesaw, the increased attack speed and slow helps early game with winning 1v1 fights and maintaining 2v1s with Grux’s passive bleed. Depending on your opponent you can choose Overlord or Fist of Razuul second, both give you the minion clear needed allowing you to invade enemy jungle if you are in Offlane role or rotate around the map faster if you are the Jungler.
Bonesaw: Bonesaw is a fantastic starting weapon that is generally overlooked by many players, however has been on the rise since 1.0 released. This item gives you one of the largest health boosts which is very noticeable in early game. One every third basic attack your speed is increased by 15%, you deal 2% of your health as damage, and it slows by 25%. These bonuses do not diminish and continue to stack up to 3 times. Before level 6 and getting your ultimate ability, this will hit like your Ult.
Overlord: The typical single target basic attack jungle hero item. This item is big on Khaimera but also works really well on Grux for clearing minions. It stacks well with the increased attack speed, gives a large health boost and increases your physical damage by 2.5% of your total health.
Fist of Razuul: One of the largest health increase items available right now. Deals 40% extra damage to minions allowing Grux to clear minions and sustain in 1v1 and 2v1 fights. Every 3 seconds empower the next basic attack and heal 80% of the damage dealt.
If your opponent’s abilities generate omnivamp you may opt to grab a tainted item for your second or even third item. Tainted Guard is good for the extra armor and stacks with Grux’s passive bleed damage, but you can also use Tainted Blade or Tainted Rounds here as well if you are looking to stick with a damage forward build. Tainted blade will give you extra damage against the target and tainted rounds gives you more attack speed with crit chance. Doing this will make you very squishy late game. However, if you find you are dealing with more tanks or enemies with large health bars consider going Sky Splitter here.
Mid Game:
Depending on your opponent and what items they are focusing on will depend on whether you build Tainted items or Basilisk. Another factor is the scenario of the fights you have been dealing with. If you are taking significant damage early game or the Jungle/Midlane is rotating into Offlane more than the other lanes, you may want to start with Tainted Guard or Fist of Razuul. Otherwise, the Offlane match up will typically have some type of healing ability and you will want the tainted item to negate some of that.
Basilisk: The Corrode and Eminence abilities from this item is what makes Grux shine. Grux’s bleed damage from his passive works towards corrode causing it to max out at 6 stacks quickly. Once the target is at 6 stacks you now deal 3% of the target’s missing health each basic attack. This blends nicely into Grux’s Ultimate and Bonesaw.
Tainted Guard: Tainted Guard is strong when dealing with on-hit enemies. It has its own bleed damage that applies to all basic attacking you. If dealing with Magical and Physical enemies it may be better to go Frostguard to slow the attacks against you by up to 15%. If dealing with more Magic dealers Crystalline Cuirass would be a better option.
Earthshaker: If looking to burst down the enemies health and forgo increasing your own, grab this. It increases your ability damage up to 15% extra. This increases attack speed, adds health, and gives ability haste to get your abilities off more often.
Late Game:
If the game goes into late game your last item can focus on a range of items depending on the state of the game. The below are my recommendations depending on the game, but use what you are comfortable with.
Demolisher and The Perforator: Both of these items ignore physical armor and when used with Basilisk, enemy tanks are nearly useless against you. The perforator adds to Bonesaw’s slow ability which makes getting away from you very difficult for enemies that find themselves out positioned.
Warden’s Faith, Dawnstar, and Salvation: Warden’s Faith reduces nearby hero physical damage and reduces incoming crits against you by 15%. Dawnstar and Warden’s Faith have similar passives. Where Warden’s Faith affect all enemies in the area, Dawnstar affects only those you are basic attacking. Dawnstar does offer ability haste and health regen where Warden’s Faith does not and when you immobilize an enemy hero you gain 25% attack speed. Salvation gives a large health spike and grants a shield when you go down to 40% health. Both items are more tanky and are great for team fights.
Combo
Crush, for the uppercut stun, back up for the Smash ‘N Grab pull, Warlord’s Challenge for the stun and attack speed, Double Pain for the double on hit effect, then swing away. If the enemy doesn’t have a blink you can stun them 1.75 seconds giving you enough time for you and your team to burst down their health.
